Microinteractions are small moments in an application or interface that serve a single purpose. Every time you slide the home screen to unlock your i phone, open an application, post something, tweet something and even hovering your mouse over a link, you are experiencing microinteractions.  In a book called Designing with Details they highlight  the structure of a beautifully-crafted microinteraction and its four parts.

  • A Trigger initiates a microinteraction.
  • The Rules determine what happens.
  • Feedback lets people know what’s happening.
  • Loops and Modes determine the meta-rules of the microinteraction.
